Subject: Decorative engraved portrait of "Mr. Rombout Hogerbeets, Pensionaris van Leiden" (Hoorn 1561 - Wassenaar 1625, Dutch statesman and jurist, tried for treason together with Johan van Oldenbarnevelt, Hugo Grotius, and Gilles van Ledenberg during the political crisis of 1617-1618 in the Dutch Republic, and sentenced to life-imprisonment. He shared Loevestein prison with Grotius). Within an oval border.
Condition: Fine, given age. Crease in the top left margin. Holes from binding in the left margin, backed with contemporary paper, reinforced with acid-free archival tape. General age-related toning and/or occasional light staining from handling. Please study scan carefully.

Jacob spend most his time designing and engraving portraits, such as the one offered here. His father (Arnold Houbraken 1660-1719) before him was also a celebrated artist/engraver.
