Condition: Excellent. General age related toning and occasional light staining from handling as visible on image. This portrait originally appeared with several on a sheet. The individual portraits were cut. No margins. Paper loss and thin paper backed and remargined.
Medium: Original copperplate engraving on verge (with chainlines) type paper. Watermark not visible on every sheet.

Description: This original old antique print / plate originates from a first edition of: ´L´Academia Tedesca della Architectura, Scultura & Pittura: oder Teutsche Academie der Edlen Bau-, Bild- und Mahlerey-Künste ...´, by Joachim von Sandrart der Alte., published in Nuremburg, Germany in 1675. The Teutsche Academie is an illustrated compendium of art education and of artist biographies compiled from a variety of sources as well as descriptions of Roman antiquities, inventories of famous private art collections and libraries.

Artists and Engravers: Author and Artist: Joachim von Sandrart der Alte. (1606 - 1688). Sandrart, born in Frankfurt am Main, was a famour art historian, painter, engraver and translator. His most famous work ´Teutsche Academie...´ was published in 1675 and a second extended edition in 1679. This plate engraved by Gustav Andreas Wolfgang (1692-1775).
