Subject: Antique print, titled: ''Carte des Iles du Cap Verd […]'' - Original antique map of the Cape Verde islands. With a nice title cartouche and a wind rose showing St. Juan ou Brava, Island St. Philippe ou Fuego, Island St. Iago, Island St. Mayo, Island Bonavista, Island Sal, Island Nicolao, Island St. Lucie, Island St. Vicent and Island St. Antonio.
Condition: Very good, given age. Original folds as issued. Some ghosting of image from folding as issued. Small tear in bottom right paper edge, not effecting image. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
Medium: Enraving on hand laid (verge type with chainlines) paper. Watermark: grapes.

Artists and Engravers: Made by an anonymous engraver after 'Nicolas Bellin'. Jacques-Nicolas Bellin (1703-1772) was a French hydrographer, geographer and member of The Philosophes. He was hydrographer of France's hydrographic office, member of the Academie de Marine and of the Royal Society of London. His career, spanning over 50 years, caused an enormous output in maps, particular of maritime interest.
