Condition: Fine. General age related toning and occasional light staining from handling as visible on image if applicable. Some remains of binding in margin. This plate has not been washed, bleached , restored in any way. With foxing and a tear at right bottom.
Medium: Steel engraving on vellin type paper. Original old hand colouring, heightened with arabic gum.

Artists and Engravers: Author: Georges-Louis Le Clerc, Comte de Buffon (September 7, 1707 - April 16, 1788). French naturalist, mathematician, biologist, cosmologist and author. Buffon's views influenced the next two generations of naturalists, including Jean-Baptiste Lamarck and Charles Darwin. This handcoloured engraving is by Ambroise Tardieu.
