Subject: Antique print, titled: ''South America. East Coast Sheet 1 Trinidad to Surinam.'' - Detailed sea chart of the South American coast, from Paramaribo (Surinam) to Tobago and Trinidad, and the Paria peninsula. With depth soundings, and rivers and lighthouses (coloured dots) indicated.
Condition: Very good, given age. Creasing on the right platemark. Top and lower margins cropped to the platemark. A few scattered small spots in the margins. Thumbing in the top right of the image and a stain in the center of the sheet. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
Medium: Engraving on wove paper.

Artists and Engravers: Made by 'J. & C. Walker' after an anonymous artist. John, Alexander and Charles Walker, known collectively as J & C Walker (active 1820-95), were engravers, draughtsmen and publishers working through the 19th century. The firm is best known for its work on the maps issued by the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge. However, they also engraved a large number of maps for the British Admiralty , as well as issuing several important maps of India and multiple issues of the Royal Atlas.
