Cartographer/Publisher: Made by 'Adolf Stieler' and published by 'Justus Perthes'. Adolf Stieler (1775-1836) was a German cartographer and lawyer who worked most of his life in the Justus Perthes Geographical Institute in Gotha. His Handatlas was the leading German world atlas until the middle of the 20th century. Johann Georg Justus Perthes (1749-1816) was a German publisher and founder of the publishing house that bears his name.
