Subject: Antique Portrait Print, untitled. A portrait of George Charles Bingham, 3rd Earl of Lucan (1800-1888), a British Field Marshal known for his role in the Crimean War. He commanded the Cavalry Division during the Crimean War, which included the Light Brigade and the Heavy Brigade. Lucan is most notably remembered for his part in the Charge of the Light Brigade during the Battle of Balaklava in 1854, a disastrous cavalry charge resulting from miscommunication of orders. Despite the controversy surrounding the Charge, Lucan was later promoted to general in 1865 and field marshal in 1887. In Ireland, he is also remembered for his controversial actions as a landlord during the Great Famine, including mass evictions of tenants.
Condition: Good, given age. Ample margins, some foxing and waterstaining lower left. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
