Artists and Engravers: Engraved by Simon Fokke, after Jan Wandelaar. Simon Fokke (Amsterdam 1712-1784) was the son of actor Arend Fokke. Simon was trained under engraver Jan Caspar Philips when his father found young Simon would rather draw than act. Jan Wandelaar (1690-1759) was a pupil of Gerard de Lairesse. He started designing book illustrations in classicist style in the early 18th century.
