Subject: Plate : 'Marina et autres femmes donnees a Cortez'. This plate shows Hernan Cortes (1485-1547), the Spanish conqueror of Mexico, and some of his soldiers being presented with the gift of several native virgins somewhere on the Mexican coast.
Condition: Good. General age-related toning and light staining/soiling from handling as visible on image. Small spot in the image. Irregular edges as issued. Please study scan carefully.
Medium: Copperplate engraving / etching on a verge type of hand laid paper. Original folds.

Pierre Charles Baquoy (1759 - 1829) was a French painter and engraver, known for depictions of famous historical characters. Antoine Francois Prevost d'Exiles (1697-1763), usually known simply as the Abbe Prevost, was a French author and novelist.
