Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Carel Christiaan Antony Last' after 'Nicholas Pieneman'. Carel Christiaan Antony Last (1808-1876) was a Dutch draughtsman, lithographer and artist. The Dutch painter and lithographer Nicholas Pieneman (1809-1860) was the son of the painter Jan Willem Pieneman. Of course trained by his father, he later studied at the Amsterdam Academy of Fine Arts. He specialized in paintings of recent historical events. He was a close friend of King William II and painted numerous portraits of members of the royal family.
