Description: This steel engraving originates from a Dutch edition of 'Meyer's Universum', published and printed by the 'Bibliographical Institute' seated in Hildburghausen, Germany in 1837. This work consists out of several parts/books describing important views of nature and art in all parts of the world. This plate is from part E.

Artists and Engravers: The publisher of this work is Carl Joseph Meyer (1796-1856). He was a German entrepreneur and publisher. He was very succesful with his publishing firm 'Bibliographisches Institut', which he started in his hometown Gotha in 1826. He published bibles, literature and geographis atlasses. He was very succes with 'Meyers Universum', a picture atlas of the world with steel engravings, published between 1833 and 1861 in 17 volumes and 12 languages. He also started the famous 'Meyers Konversations-Lexikon'. Engraver unknown.
