Description: Delicate copperplate engravings from the very scarce bound collection of engravings representing the works of Francis van Bossuit: 'Cabinet de l'art de sculpture, par le fameux sculpteur Francis van Bossuit. Executé en ivoire, ou ebouché en terre, gravées d'apres les desseins de Barent Graat, par Mattys Pool', Amsterdam 1727.

Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Mattys Pool' after 'Barent Graat after Francis van Bossuit'. The engravings were made by Mattys Pool (1676-1727) after the drawings by the Dutch painter Barent Graat (1628-1709). Francis van Bossuit (1635 -1692) was a famous Flemish sculptor. He was born in Brussels in 1635. Early in his life he went to Italy where he became famous for his ivory carvings of antique statues. In 1675 he went to Amsterdam together with Bonaventura van Overbeke (1660-1706).
