Condition: Very good, given age. A faint dampstain in the left margin and a faint stain in the center of the image. Margins a little soiled. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

Description: From "Vervolg der Leerzame Zinnebeelden, Spiegel der Boetvaardigheid en Genade en eenige Stichtelyke Gezangen", by Adriaan Spinneker, published in Haarlem by Jan Bosch, 1758. First and only edition. This is a continuation of Spinniker's 'Leerzaame Zinnebeelden.' (Haarlem, Isaac van der Vinne, 1714, and new-title editions of 1756 and 1757), which contained 50 emblems by Vincent van de Vinne. Artists and Engravers: Made by 'J.C. Philips' after 'Adriaan Spinneker'. Most of the refined plates are by painter and etcher Vincent van der Vinne Jr (1686-1742), although J.C. Philips is given as the etcher of 4 plates in the second part of this book. The author of this work is Adriaan Spinniker (Groningen 1676-1754 Haarlem). He was a preacher with the doopsgezinde gemeente in Amsterdam. He is known for his poetry.
