Subject: Antique print, titled: 'A Chart of ye Coast of Barbary from Cape Geer to Cape Bajadore. [And:] from C. Bajadore to the Golfe of St. Anne.' - A map/chart of the Western coast of Africa, showing the coast form the southern end of Western Sahara north to Morocco, ending around Agadir. This map is in two parts on one sheet.

Condition: Good, given age. Original middle fold, as issued. Very faintly dampstained in the lower left margin corner (mostly visible on rear). The margins with a few small stains and some soiling. A sharp crease left of the middle fold, from the lower margin into the image (mostly visible on rear). General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

Medium: Engraving with contemporary handcolouring on hand laid paper.

Artists and Engravers: Made by an anonymous engraver after 'Samuel Thornton'. Samuel Thornton (d.1715) was the son the English mapmaker John Thornton, an eminent English mapmaker of the late seventeenth and early eighteenth century. After his father's death in 1708, Samuel Thornton continued to re-issue his father’s map (often with his imprint substituted).
