Subject: Plate : 'Saturday Morning, Favourite Chickens Going to Market.' This plate shows a girl with a basket of eggs and a cage of chickens, holding out her hand so a younger sister can let go of her 'Favourite Chicken'. The mother, standing behind the girl holding the chicken, tries to comfort her daughters. A son stands beside them, with two donkeys for the journey to the market.
Condition: Good. General age-related toning and light staining/soiling from handling as visible on image. Margins with foxing and staining. Small reapaired tear top edge. Image clean with beautiful colours. Please study scan carefully.

Artists and Engravers: Engraved by Burke after Bigg. Thomas Burke (1749-1815) was an Irish-born mezzotint engraver, who later turned to colour stipple engraving. William Redmore Bigg (1755-1828) was an English painter. He studied at the Royal Academy under Eward Penny. Bigg's greatest pleasure lay in painting children. He produced small portraits and rustic genre pieces.
